BOARD LETTER

Engage & Balance

To Our Members & Stakeholders

In 2024, PJM’s independent Board of Managers upheld its primary responsibility to ensure the reliable flow of electricity to the 67 million people we serve in 13 states and Washington, D.C. We extend our gratitude to the PJM staff, Members and stakeholders who diligently responded to the challenges of our evolving grid.

As chair of the independent PJM Board, I remain mindful that our obligation to keep the lights on and the power flowing is our primary purpose. We also bear the responsibility of ensuring PJM operates robust, competitive markets and plans prudently for the transmission required to maintain power balance amid the grid’s ongoing evolution.

Throughout the year, the Board appreciated the thoughtful feedback from all of our Members, stakeholders and states. This collaboration has been crucial as we address rapidly shifting industry dynamics, including the unprecedented load growth being driven by data center proliferation and enhanced electrification.

I’m proud of our collective focus and accomplishments throughout 2024. Our actions were taken in active, transparent collaboration with our states and stakeholders in support of reliability and resource adequacy.

In response, PJM advanced several initiatives to bring new capacity online faster and drive further stability in our markets. These efforts included the filing of the Reliability Resource Initiative, continued interconnection process advancements and sensible capacity market reforms. On the operations side, the Board observed reliable system performance during Winter Storm Gerri and other notable events. In addition, we continued to partner with our states to develop long-term planning scenarios that comply with state laws and regulations.

I’m proud of our collective focus and accomplishments throughout 2024. Our actions were taken in active, transparent collaboration with our states and stakeholders in support of reliability and resource adequacy. We thank the Members, stakeholders and PJM staff for their responsiveness and dedication. The PJM Board appreciates your engagement and looks forward to our continued work to meet the needs of the evolving grid.

Sincerely,

MARK TAKAHASHI
